SEE YOU THERE!

Design has always been a joyous & important part of my life. As a child I redecorated each room I slept in. I was lucky that my dad and mom were also creative people and allowed me to make changes with their help. I designed headboards with fabric insets, and decorative night stands to match. My dad built and mom painted, based on bedspreads or colors I selected. I was constantly rearranging, even the way the books and objects looked in the bookcase. Having a dad and mom that dragged my brothers and sisters, (7 of us), to art galleries, museums, and making us aware of outstanding architecture and design, awakened my awareness and desire for excellence.

Ann Living in Hawaii in the 80's revealed a gift I didn't know I had; an innate knowing of Feng Shui and Vastu discovered when home sellers contacted me when they were having difficulty selling their homes. I could see right away what needed to be done to align the energy of garden & home, along with the importance of the front doors exposure to the street and proper placement of plants, screens, etc. I began getting referral calls when pleased home sellers spread the word to friends. The first time this happened the person called to ask me to Feng Shui their home & garden and I had to informed them, "I don't know Feng Shui". I was informed that I did. On an energetic level I understood the relationship we all have to our environment and how all the elements work in unity and how to bring them into alignment to create a sense of harmony and well being.

Natures beauty was always an important part of that equation, as our holidays and weekend outings were filled with its beauty; the giant redwood forests, rivers leading to damns, the magic of winters serenity, and sunsets touching the ocean like finely cut diamonds... As a young teen, I was fortunate enough to experience two months in New York City, as well as spending 4 months in Europe at 18. I fell in love with Italy--all of it; colors, food, people, architecture, crumbling paint and stone walls, statues and amazing gardens. I would have stayed if I could have. I loved so much of Europe, but Italy felt like 'home'.

I realized nothing I could ever design could cast a shadow on that brilliance--that genius of our Creator, but I was determine to try. And years later I went to New York City once again, this time to study "Faux Finishes" focusing on stone and marbles as well as sacred geometry--I was in my element! I couldn't stay in Italy, but now, along with landscaping and design racing in my blood, I could bring Italy to me. So join me in viewing another one of my great passions; Design: interior & exterior, landscape design, designing furniture, & Old World painting.
And I want to introduce you to my mom--Bobbe--an amazing artist, who has worked with me on many amazing mural projects, as well as expressing her fine painting talents on canvas. ENJOY!

OLD WORLD FAUX AND PAINTING FINISHES ON WALLS, FURNITURE, CEILINGS, FLOORS...

GOOD AS GOLD -- GOLD LEAFING "TO MY SISTER LISA"

Ann

I find it interesting when people ask me if Faux is out--Ancient Places & the beautiful walls that make us feel so comforted with its subtle friendly movement will never be out. When all the ancient cities are 'out', then we will talk. When there isn't a boring pieces of furniture that can be transformed, we will talk. When I cannot take something new and make it appear ancient, we will talk. When frescos are no longer admired in ancient lands, we will talk... Although many of my favorite jobs were walls that were of subtle elegance, but not being a professional photographer I have never been able to successfully captured them on film.

"Since I designed the border of the headboard to be beveled mirror, it picked up not only light and reflection, but the city lights at night. During the day it shot beautiful rainbows of light"

"There is really a view of the ocean & town wrapping around, but it was fun to play with a new program,
and I moved the dining room across the home. It did look better before, but it is fun to play"

What is important to me is that the home, ocean below, and the shore are all in harmoney, that is how I choose colors

Columns were white plaster, Angelica, with layers of paint turned them to wood and gold leafed details to harmonize with other gold details in the rooms. She also designed the stair railing in hammered iron and caped it with polished brass. For a Oregon client Angelica used multi layers of colors to create and ancient feel on the 2nd iron railing that was originally white. The Faux Marble with old column was done in oil.

Casa Bella In Progress--wanting to keep the original cottage feel being 1 block to the beach. You can see the original house in the darker raised outline on the right front side of photo. The lighter roof area was where the walls were pushed back to allow for more space including French doors. The pitched roof line behind it was a new structure which included laundry, dining and family room. The left side addition went to the master suite, office and meditation room up top, but most importantly, Casa Bella's rooms were positioned to take advantage of having light all day. Every room had French doors that easily accessed the outdoors & allowed the gardens to come in.

Landscape

Landscape should compliment interior and exterior of your home. From the inside, you should be able to have wonderful garden views. The correct placement of trees and shrubs is important. Nature is an amazing healer--so why not design your home keeping these additional "rooms" in mind.

Landscape

Clients need to see photos to clarify the mood & plant types I am suggesting... This beautiful garden was done by Maria Smithburg from Chicago. (Apologies to magazine I found this in and tore out long ago-- for not being able to give credit for photo-but I bet it was Veranda or Traditional Home?)
